Supported by funding from Lloyds TSB Foundation for England & Wales and is run by Merthyr Tydfil Crossroads Caring for Carers.
The project employs 4 Carer Support Workers who work directly on the project supporting Carers of people who are caring for someone with Dementia.
We currently provide services within the Carers own home enabling them to take a break whilst our Carer Support Workers look after the person they care for.
We also run 2 groups Monday - Friday where we take out the cared for person to one of our venues whilst the Carers has a break. The group provides support for the person with dementia to participate in games such as dominoes, memory games etc. The aim of the group is firstly to give the Carer a break from their caring role and secondly to engage the person with care needs in meaningful activities, enabling them to have a better quality of life.

A carer is defined as the person who is taking responsibility for the care a person who needs a substantial amount of care because of a mental or physical disability or because they are frail through ageing.
There is not a “typical” carer, he or she may be of any age, culture or religion. What carers do have in common is the experience of being under a great deal of physical and emotional strain from demands of caring.
Through the Crossroads service, fully trained Care Workers can go into peoples homes to relieve the carer by taking over the work that he or she would normally do.
We offer a flexible reliable and sensitive service that is tailored to meet the needs of the carer.
Our main service is provided through core funding from Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council under an agency agreement.
